Casting metal is a 6,000-year-old process still used in manufacturing and fine art. The founder melts metal (usually aluminum, bronze, or cast iron) in a crucible, pours it into a mold, then removes the mold material or the casting once the metal has cooled and solidified. In our classes, beginners learn the safety associated with pouring 1800 degrees of molten metal, how to pack a sand mold, and how to pour liquid metal into the mold.
Learn to sew a beanie hat made of knit fabric using a serger! Stretch and Knit fabrics have very different properties from standard fabrics; learn to work with them in the sewing shop, which includes learning the ins and outs of serger sewing machine use.
Learn the centuries-old craft of woodturning. Initially, a craft born out of necessity, using a lathe has gained tremendous popularity as a hobby over the last 50 years. Develop an understanding of how to safely operate a lathe while building wood grain knowledge in this beginner-friendly workshop. This is a satisfying craft and one where you can create things you’ll actually use!

This technical class is full of pro-tips with tons of hands-on welding and instruction to improve your MIG welds. We’ll review safety and equipment to be sure you’ve got the best information to make choices as you set up- helmet type and adjustments, various glove advantages, material props, workstations, light, and welder set-up.
Get a broad understanding of a well-equipped wood shop while learning safety and basics through practice. In this course, makers will begin with un-milled lumber and process it through various wood shop machines to get hands-on experience with multiple tools in the shop, resulting in a mini hat rack to take home with them!

This class will provide attendees with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in creating 2D drafts suitable for CNC machining, laser cutting, and plasma cutting. Participants will understand the essential principles of drafting for CNC, develop proficiency in V-Carve, and understand how to optimize their designs for CNC processes.
