Laser Cutting Badge
Get trained on our 30-watt Epilogue Zing laser cutter AND our 150-watt Boss LS-3655 laser cutter. Learn how to personalize just about anything by etching and cutting material. Wood, ceramic, acrylic, paper, glass, you name it!
Core Tool “Badge” Trainings are open to both Make Santa Fe members and the general public. They serve as an introduction to the safe and proper use of a tool or shop. They must be taken successfully before members can access the tool or shop independently.
Badge Trainings are different from workshops in that they mainly cover tool operations and are not able to cover the techniques for each tool in depth. To learn more about techniques, or specific products, check out our Workshops Page or request a Private Lesson.

Embark on the exciting journey of creating with metal. Get hands-on training on the many tools required for cutting, bending, shaping, grinding, drilling, and welding steel in the MAKE metal shop. Students will go through the various steps and techniques required to build their very own ornamental steel table.
Get a broad understanding of navigating a well-equipped wood shop while learning the safety basics through practice. In this course, makers will begin with un-milled lumber and process it through various wood shop machines to get hands-on experience with a variety of tools in the shop resulting in a mini hat rack to take home with them!
Casting metal is a 6,000-year-old process still used in manufacturing and fine art. The founder melts metal (in our case, bronze) in a crucible, pours it into a mold, then removes the mold material or the casting once the metal has cooled and solidified. In our classes, beginners learn the safety associated with pouring 1800 degrees of molten metal, how to pack a sand mold, and how to pour liquid metal into the mold.
The Shaper Origin is a handheld CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router that allows users to cut precise shapes and patterns into various materials. It is designed to be portable and easy to use, making it a popular tool for woodworking, metalworking, and other crafts.
If you can imagine a shape there is a good chance you can create it with the push of a button using 3D printing. Intricate patterns, useful gadgets, tools, jigs, and molds are all common in 3d printing but your imagination is really the biggest limit. Browse printables.com to get ideas prior to attending this certification course.
Cutting metal by hand can be exhausting, so why not learn how to make a robot do it for you? Take your metal work to the next level as you learn to process basic vector or CAD drawings into precision-cut steel designs with our CNC plasma cutter. This is a 2-day class, 10:00-14:00 each day.
Are you enthralled by watching glowing red-hot steel be manipulated and transformed? Have you ever wanted to try your hand at blacksmithing? Here’s a chance to learn the safety precautions, basic techniques, tools, and nomenclature to get you started.
