Linoleum Printmaking

Overview

Explore the art of relief printmaking! In relief printing, a block is carved, inked, and then printed on paper to transfer the carved image. In this class we will carve linoleum blocks and print an edition, creating a series of prints for you to take home. All materials are included!

What you’ll learn:

• History and relevance of relief printmaking
• Examples & methods for creating prints
• Materials & terminology for creating prints
• Carving and printing processes and working tips
• At the end of our time together, you will come away with a carved plate for further use, a series of prints, and the skills to do this process on your own. 

About the Instructor:

Eleanor Ryburn lives in Santa Fe, NM, where she makes illustrated essays and poems, teaches mindfulness and visual art, and practices Craniosacral therapy. She is also a morning walker, meditator, and lover of community, the natural world, and soul satisfying conversations. She earned a BFA in printmaking, book arts, and creative writing at Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters in Art Education at Portland State University. Through her art she explores healing, the climate crisis, community and interconnectedness, our relationship to the animate earth, and the interplay between destruction and creation. She makes art under the name Earthworm Studio because she is inspired by the earthworm and its ability to move through the world leaving things healthier and more fertile. She hopes to make art that feels connective, generous, and nutritious.
