Beginning Knitting

Come and learn the age-old craft of knitting. Learn basic knitting terminology, how to Identify different stitches, how to cast on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, how to bind off, and how to read simple patterns. We’ll cover the basic knitting techniques, which, with practice, result in many wonderful scarves, cup cozies, blankets, hats, and more. It really helps to learn knitting IRL with an instructor watching and helping as you practice the techniques.
No experience necessary!
*This class is for RIGHT handers
What you’ll learn:
- Basic knitting terminology
- How to cast on
- The knit stitch
- The purl stitch
- How to bind off
Students are required to bring:
– One pair of larger size knitting needles for “bulky” (Suggest US #10 or #11)
– One skein of yarn (“chunky” or “bulky” suggested)
-Needles and Yard should be of contrasting colors; makes it easier to see to learn!
About the Instructor:
Christy Georg is an Artist / Adventurer. She has worked as a deckhand aboard sailing schooners, thru-hiked the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail and 500-mile Colorado trail, and cruised the Arctic. Endurance and fortitude drive underlying themes in her work. She has her BFA and MFA in sculpture and brings a 20-year career with dozens of awards and rich fabrication experience to MAKE.
