Blacksmithing Forge
Our blacksmithing forges are blown propane forges. This means they are slightly hotter and more efficient than a traditional atmospheric forge. They achieve this efficiency by forcing air into a nozzle that mixes with the propane, requiring less propane.
We have two small propane forges available for reservation. These two forges can reach temperatures in excess of 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and are capable of forge-welding steel. However, it does take some finessing to “tune” the forges to the proper propane/air mixture.
All blacksmiths must take the Blacksmithing badge class and must be Make Santa Fe members.
What this reservation includes:
- Use of blacksmithing space (it’s outdoor but covered, dress accordingly)
- Use of anvil(s)
- Use of various blacksmithing tools (tongs, hammers, punches, wrenches, tables, etc.)
- Bring your own propane!
What this reservation does not include:
- Materials
- Instruction (although we do have staff around to answer questions)
- Propane!
