Michael Makoid

Michael C. Makoid, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus, Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions
Dr. Makoid received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1976. He currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. His teaching responsibilities included courses in the areas of pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacokinetics, and drug delivery system design. He is the author of over 75 original research publications and textbooks. He is a national and international speaker in the area of dissolution technology, pharmacokinetics, and pedagogy having given in excess of 500 presentations in these areas around the globe. His original equation (Makoid-Banakar Equation) describing kinetics of sustained release products and in vivo-in vitro correlations has become an industry standard.
He has held position of Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Assistant to the Vice President of Health Sciences and Assistant Dean of the School of Pharmacy as well as serving on multiple university, school, and national committees. In the over 50 years since graduation from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Makoid has worked as a hospital pharmacist, a chain store pharmacist, a community pharmacist, an industrial research pharmacist and a consultant pharmacist for the state. He is the recipient of the 2013 Wisconsin Citation, the highest award given by the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. The award is given to the alumnus, who, by his actions, has brought recognition and honor to the University.
