WORKSHOP – Beginning Bookmaking Using the Sidestitch

“Japanese Side stitch is a simple non-adhesive binding that is an excellent intro to bookbinding. Also known as Stab Binding, this traditional binding was practiced in China, Japan, and Korea” -Wikipedia

What you will learn:

  • Students will learn to make decorated, patterned paste papers with a corn starch and acrylic paint mixture
  • How to wrap & adhere the decorative paste paper over bookboard creating the front and back covers
  • Create the interior signatures (pages within the book)
  • How to use a jig to punch holes in the paper signatures and covers
  • Assembly of the book using bookbinding thread with the Japanese side stitch technique.
