To ensure a safe, productive, and inspiring environment for young makers, Make Santa Fe requires all parents and guardians to review and agree to the expectations below. Our makerspace is an active industrial environment, and these guidelines help us maintain safety, respect, and a positive learning experience for everyone.
Supervision Requirements
- Students ages 12–15 must be directly accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
Parents must remain in the same studio space as their child. Supervision from a distance elsewhere in the building is not permitted. - Students 16+ may work independently once they complete required badge classes and demonstrate responsible tool use.
Make Santa Fe Is Not a Childcare Facility
Make Santa Fe is an industrial workspace that involves real tools, equipment, and safety considerations.
- We do not provide childcare, supervision, or monitoring.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for their child’s wellbeing, conduct, and safety decisions at all times while in the space.
- Staff and instructors may offer guidance, but they are not responsible for supervising minors.
Tool Access & Age Restrictions
- No one under 16 may operate tools with spinning saw blades, including:
- Table saw
- Miter saw
- Band saw
- Other comparable high-risk rotary cutting tools
- Students may only use tools and equipment appropriate for their age after completing all required badge classes and receiving staff approval.
- Students and guardians must follow posted signs and instructor/staff direction at all times.
Required Badge Classes and Safety Protocols
Before using any studio, both students and parents must:
- A parent or guardian must take the required badge class. Their child may attend at no additional cost. The parent must fully participate in the class, complete all required projects, and demonstrate safe, knowledgeable use of the tools.
- Follow all Make Santa Fe safety rules, PPE requirements, and cleanup procedures
- Respect limitations set by instructors or staff based on skill level, maturity, or safety concerns.
- Children under 16 may not independently use tools or equipment. Parent supervision and direction is required at all times.
Failure to follow safety protocols may result in restricted access or loss of membership.
Behavior & Conduct Expectations
We expect everyone in the space, youth and adults, to uphold our culture of collaboration and responsibility:
- Treat others, tools, and the facility with respect
- Communicate openly with staff regarding concerns or questions
- Use tools only as instructed and never bypass safety procedures
- Report unsafe behavior immediately
- Practice patience and positive collaboration with other makers
Repeated unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in temporary or permanent suspension of access.
Agreement
By participating at Make, parents/guardians agree to uphold the policies listed above and support a safe, respectful, creative environment for all Make Santa Fe members.
