The Shaper Origin Badge is a 4-hour hands-on course designed to certify members to independently use the Shaper Origin handheld CNC router at Make Santa Fe.
The Shaper Origin blends digital precision with the flexibility of a handheld router, allowing makers to bring CNC accuracy directly to their material. In this class, students will learn how the tool interprets digital designs, how to properly prepare a workspace, and how to guide the Origin to create precise cuts, engravings, and joinery.
We will cover tool setup, interface navigation, cutter selection, workholding strategies, safety procedures, and the range of accessories that expand the tool’s capabilities. Students will also learn how to think about projects in terms of geometry, toolpaths, and registration methods, developing the foundational knowledge needed to confidently approach the Shaper Origin for future work.
During the class, students will complete a small engraved clipboard, gaining practical experience with the full workflow from digital file to finished object.
Successful completion of this class grants the Shaper Origin Badge and allows independent use of the Shaper Origin equipment at Make Santa Fe.
