About This Event
The engines are stripped down. The drills are souped up. And Santa Fe’s most unhinged summer tradition is back for its fourth year running. We’re louder, faster, and more dangerous than ever.
THE RACE
Power Tool Racing is a one-of-a-kind motorsport where competitors transform everyday power tools into high-speed racing machines. Drills, angle grinders, and custom-modified contraptions line up head-to-head on Make Santa Fe’s drag strip and are set loose.
The crowd controls the outcome, and that’s where it gets interesting.

Think the wrong racer won? Think the race was unfair? A false start? A broken racer? Your best bud just needs another chance? Spectators and competitors can donate to trigger redos or override race outcomes. You ARE part of the action! Every dollar goes directly to supporting Make Santa Fe, a nonprofit makerspace dedicated to keeping hands-on creativity alive in New Mexico.

The Maker Olympics!
While the strip burns rubber, the Maker Olympics turns the floor into a battleground of blue-collar skill and sawdust-fueled competition. Carnival-style. Just you, your hands, and your maker instincts.
Compete in all seven events. Claim the title of Top Maker Olympian.
HAMMER TIME! Drive a nail into a board in the fewest blows.
SIZE DOES MATTER Guess the measurement to the nearest millimeter. Accuracy is everything.
SCRAPWOOD BASKETBALL In 60 seconds sink as many peices of scrap wood as you can!
MAKE THE CUT Fastest one to cut a 4×4 post clean in half wins.
SCREW IT! Drive a 1⅝” screw into a 2×4 using only a handheld screwdriver.
TAPE MEASURE FISHING Use only your tape measure to drag objects across a table to your side. It’s harder than it looks.
MINI BATTLE BOTS Control a mini battle bot to pop your opponents balloons!
THE CAUSE
Powertool Racing isn’t just a spectacle, it’s a fundraiser. Make Santa Fe is a nonprofit community makerspace where builders, tinkerers, and artists, come to learn, create, and belong. Every donation at this event, whether you’re buying a redo, sponsoring a racer, or throwing cash at the Maker Olympics, keeps the tools running, the lights on, and the community making.
