About This Event

This 4-hour class is a great way to explore MIG welding! You’ll receive the basic introduction to metal insert gas (MIG) welding, plasma cutting, and basic fabrication processes to create a small desk organizer that you can take home.

What you’ll learn

Participants will receive a comprehensive introduction to:

  • Tool Safety and Shop Cleanliness
  • Abrasive Saw & Metal Cutting Chop/Miter Saw
  • Horizontal Bandsaw
  • Angle Grinder (Cutting, Grinding, Finishing)
  • Bench Grinder
  • Drum Sander
  • Drill Press
  • MIG Welding and proper welding machine operation
  • Handheld Plasma Cutter

Class Details

Adults and young adults (16+) are welcome to take any class at Make Santa Fe. Youth (12+) may take certain classes along with a parent or guardian. Ask us which classes are appropriate for 12-16 year olds.

Safety and Proper Dress for the Metalshop:

  • All-natureal fiber clothing (jeans, Carhartts, etc)
  • Long Pants
  • Close-toed shoes with socks that protect the ankle.
  • Hair must be tied back.
  • Synthetic clothing is not allowed near hot-working machines (welders, grinders, torches, etc)
  • Close fitting clothing is required, not loose strings, pulls, sleeves, or ties.

The following is required for any activity at Make Santa Fe:

  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Safety Glasses
  • Ear Protection

 

Location: 2879 All Trades Road, Santa Fe NM, 87507

Parking: Parking is tight, you may park along the road or in the limited parking in front of the building. The lot fills up quickly. DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE.

Schedule: Class is from 10am to 2pm, be prepared to run a little late. Please arrive early if this is your first time at Make Santa Fe.

CNC Router Essentials

Classes from January 2 to December 5

At Make Santa Fe, this class focuses on building confidence with the CNC process through hands-on learning. You’ll explore how digital design, material selection, and toolpaths work together to shape wood and other materials. Combine problem solving and design thinking to bring your ideas to life.

Woodshop & Woodworking

Cut just about anything with the Wazer water jet. Metal, glass, ceramic, rubber and much more. Waterjets use very high pressure water combined with an abrasive material to cut through many materials other CNC machines cant. Water jets can also cut very high detail compared to a plasma cutter.

Laser Cutter

Classes from January 11 to December 12

Learn how to personalize just about anything by etching and cutting material using our 80-watt Red Sail laser cutter AND our 150-watt Boss LS-3655 laser cutter. Wood, ceramic, acrylic, paper, glass, you name it!
