Laser Cutter

Learn how to personalize just about anything by etching and cutting material using our 80-watt Red Sail laser cutter AND our 150-watt Boss LS-3655 laser cutter. Wood, ceramic, acrylic, paper, glass, you name it!

What you’ll learn:
In this Badge class, attendees will learn how to configure the laser cutters properly, choose the correct materials for the tool, and learn general safety guidelines when using a laser. When you become a member, you’ll have access to these powerful machines!

Prerequisites:
This class does not include file preparation or design instruction.

• Previous experience with vector design software (like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designers, or Inkscape).
• *Prerequisite: WORKSHOP – 2D Drafting for CNC (you can bypass this by successfully taking this short drafting test: recreate that in your preferred program and email it to build@makesantafe.org)
• Working knowledge of basic design concepts such as creating shapes, using layers, and setting dimensions.
• Basic understanding of file types, importing and exporting files, and ability to navigate windows and MacOS filesystems.

Please Note:

Students 16 years of age and up can be unaccompanied; ages 12-15 must have a guardian also enrolled in the class.  Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (ask us).
