What you’ll learn
In this Badge class, attendees will learn how to configure the laser cutters properly, choose the correct materials for the tool, and learn general safety guidelines when using a laser. When you become a member, you’ll have access to these powerful machines!

Test out of this prerequisite class by successfully taking this short drafting test – recreate in your preferred program and email it to us.
This class does not include file preparation or design instruction.
- Previous experience with vector design software (like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designers, or Inkscape).
- Working knowledge of basic design concepts such as creating shapes, using layers, and setting dimensions.
- Basic understanding of file types, importing and exporting files, and ability to navigate windows and MacOS filesystems.
Details
A badge class is an introduction class designed to safely onboard you into our studios. In badge classes students complete a simple project using the tools in the studio and gain foundational knowledge of those tools. Anyone can take a badge class, and these classes are required for members to use the studio.
Adults and young adults (16+) are welcome to take any class at Make Santa Fe.
Youth (12+) may take this class along with a parent or guardian.

Parking: Parking is tight, you may park along the road or in the limited parking in front of the building. The lot fills up quickly. DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE.
Schedule: Class is from 10am to 2pm, be prepared to run a little late. Please arrive early if this is your first time at Make Santa Fe.

In this course, makers will begin with un-milled lumber and process it through various wood shop machines to get hands-on experience with multiple tools in the shop, resulting in a mini hat/key/scarf rack to take home with them!
Waterjet
Classes from January 8 to December 12
Cut just about anything with the Wazer water jet. Metal, glass, ceramic, rubber and much more. Waterjets use very high pressure water combined with an abrasive material to cut through many materials other CNC machines cant. Water jets can also cut very high detail compared to a plasma cutter.
