Intermediate Wood: Carving Spoons
This is a TWO day class on March 15 & 16 from 10-1:30 each day






Participants will refine their wood carving skills in this hands-on workshop by crafting a beautifully hand-carved spoon. Students will transform a raw wood blank into a functional and artistic piece using traditional carving techniques and specialized tools.
Guided by expert instruction, students will:
- Learn about wood selection, grain direction, and how to work with different types of wood.
- Use carving tools such as hook knives, gouges, and chisels to shape and refine their spoon.
- Explore safe and efficient carving techniques to achieve smooth contours and ergonomic designs.
- Develop an understanding of finishing techniques, including sanding and oiling, to enhance the durability and beauty of their work.
Day 1: Participants expand their knowledge of axe carving to transform a wood round into a spoon blank. This engaging session will refresh the fundamentals of using an axe safely and effectively. Carvers will gain essential skills to create a foundation for their spoon, setting the stage for further refinement.
Day 2: Learn the art of transforming your wood blank into a beautifully crafted spoon. This engaging course is designed for both beginners and those with some carving experience. Under the guidance of our skilled instructor, you’ll explore various knife techniques, gain an understanding of wood selection, and develop your artistic style while creating a functional piece of art. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your very own hand-carved spoon and the confidence to continue your carving journey.

- Students must be at least 16 years of age. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (ask us).
Workshop Attire & Requirements:
- Closed-toed shoes
- Long pants preferred
- A way to secure long hair
- If the weather permits, we’ll be outside—dress in layers.
