Learn essential skills such as threading, adjusting thread tension, machine maintenance, and safety practices. Explore the specifics of heavy-duty and industrial needles, gaining the knowledge needed to select and change them appropriately for different projects. You’ll also learn our industrial punch and grommet machine. Whether you’re looking to enhance your sewing expertise or start a new hobby, this class will equip you with invaluable skills for any heavy-duty sewing endeavor.
What You Will Learn:
- Operation and maintenance of industrial sewing machines – we have 3 different types
- How to thread machines and correctly adjust thread tension
- Safety protocols for using industrial equipment
- Changing & winding bobbins
- Operation of punch & grommet machine
- Techniques for working with heavy canvas, industrial synthetics, and leather
- Understanding needle types, how & when to change them
Please Note:
- Prerequisite: MAKE Sewing Badge is REQUIRED
- Students aged 16 years and up can attend unaccompanied. Students aged 12-15 must have a guardian also enrolled in the class. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (please ask us for details).
- Closed-toe shoes are required at MAKE and long hair must be tied back in shops

In this course, makers will begin with un-milled lumber and process it through various wood shop machines to get hands-on experience with multiple tools in the shop, resulting in a mini hat/key/scarf rack to take home with them!
Waterjet
Classes from January 8 to December 12
Cut just about anything with the Wazer water jet. Metal, glass, ceramic, rubber and much more. Waterjets use very high pressure water combined with an abrasive material to cut through many materials other CNC machines cant. Water jets can also cut very high detail compared to a plasma cutter.
