Glass Fusing
Glass Fusing

In this workshop, students will dive into the fascinating world of glass-working using a kiln. You’ll explore the process of heating and fusing glass into beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. We’ll cover safety procedures, the properties of glass, and the technical skills required for fusing glass. You will create a small fused piece such as a coaster or sun-catcher! You can return the next day to retrieve your piece after the kiln firing.
This class is perfect for beginners or those looking to add to their glassworking experience. We’ll also cover how you can go further with fused-glass pieces to later slump them into shapes such as a bowl- but we’re just creating a fused-glass piece in this workshop.
What You’ll Learn:
- Basic safety and proper handling of glass and kiln equipment.
- How to safely cut, shape, and grind sheet glass
- Techniques for using frit and stringer to create color and texture
- How to layer glass to build your design
- Understanding kiln temperatures and timing for different glass projects.
- Fusing glass pieces to form unique patterns, textures, and colors.
- Finishing techniques for polished, ready-to-display glass art.
- The process of slumping glass over molds to create 3D shapes (though we’re not doing it in this workshop)
