Loren Vladem
Sculptor/Ceramics Teacher
Dive into the world of clay sculpting in our immersive one-day workshop. Unleash your creativity as you explore the art of handbuilding, focusing on creating lifelike textures inspired by nature. From the intricate patterns of leaves to the rugged surfaces of bark to the skin of underwater sea creatures, you’ll learn how to infuse your sculptures with captivating detail.
In this hands-on class, you’ll practice techniques of handbuilding, whether hollowing out forms or crafting with slabs, allowing your pieces to be lightweight and versatile enough for display on walls. Additionally, you’ll discover the art of making a damp box, an essential tool for extending the workability of your clay over time.
Your piece must dry then be bisque fired, so you’ll return to glaze it, then to pick it up after its final firing.
What you’ll learn:
• Handbuilding techniques for sculpting in clay
• Creating naturalistic textures inspired by the environment
• Hollowing out forms and building with slabs for lightweight sculptures
• Making a damp box for long-term clay work preservation
Who should attend:
This workshop welcomes all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned clay artists. While prior clay experience isn’t required, we recommend familiarity with clay basics or participation in our Ceramics Badge class for optimal enjoyment and learning. Join us for a day of artistic exploration and sculpting mastery!
