Join us for a hands-on workshop where participants will learn the art of axe carving to transform a wood round into a spoon blank. This engaging session will introduce you to the fundamentals of using an axe safely and effectively. Carvers will gain essential skills to create a foundation for their spoon, setting the stage for further refinement. We encourage participants to take our follow-up Knife Carving course to complete their spoon project!
What You Will Learn:
- Basic axe handling techniques and safety protocols
- How to select and prepare a wood round for carving
- Techniques for shaping a spoon blank using an axe
- Best practices for maintaining tools
- Tips for transitioning to knife carving for finishing touches
Please Note:
- While the Knife Carving course (carving a spoon) is not required, it is recommended as a pair. It’s one week later.
- No prior experience is required, come ready to learn and create!
Workshop Attire & Requirements:
- Closed-toed shoes
- Long pants preferred
- A way to secure long hair
- If the weather permits, we’ll be outside—dress in layers.
- Students must be at least 16 years of age. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (ask us).
