Rufina Block Party

August 12, 2023 @ 4:00 pm 8:00 pm

Our 2nd annual Rufina Block Party comes back to the Siler neighborhood in partnership with Paseo Pottery, Tumbleroot, Meow Wolf and MAKE Santa Fe! And just like last year, we will be taking over the neighborhood parking lots for an evening of art, activities, music, food, vendors and more!

Food trucks: Il Encanto, Gracias Madre, Strawberries & More, and Plantita Bakery.

Paseo Pottery and ArtWalk Santa Fe are thrilled to announce their partnership in hosting the second Rufina Block Party, a vibrant celebration of art, creativity, and community. Following the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural event, the organizers are gearing up to bring the second installment of this event to the Siler neighborhood in Santa Fe on Saturday, August 12, from 4pm to 8pm. The festivities will be held at the Paseo Pottery studio and neighboring businesses on the corner of Rufina St. and Calle de Comercio.

Named after the patron of potters, Saint Rufina, the Rufina Block Party aims to shine a spotlight on the talented artists, artisans and art organizations residing in the area. This year’s event promises to be a fun one, with the collaboration of esteemed partners including MAKE Santa Fe, Meow Wolf, and Tumbleroot. Together, these organizations are transforming the Siler Rufina District into a captivating hub of artistic expression and interactive experiences.

ArtWalk Santa Fe, known for showcasing emerging artists and creators, will be a pivotal part of the festivities, with over 30 talented individuals participating in this year’s event. Attendees can explore their imaginative works displayed in the parking lots of neighboring businesses along the block, offering a delightful stroll through a diverse range of artistic styles and mediums.

Prepare to be entertained as Meow Wolf, MAKE Santa Fe, and ArtWalk Santa Fe join forces to provide interactive art activities that engage and inspire attendees of all ages. Meanwhile, Paseo Pottery will host pottery demonstrations and create an electric atmosphere with a live DJ within their facilities. More music will be available in the Smitty’s Auto parking lot, including Fire for the People, a local Santa Fe rock/folk instrumental band, and Gilbert Uribe, an award-winning singer-songwriter playing a vibrant blend of acoustic Latin & soul music he calls “Rasta Sabrosoul.”

Additionally, Tumbleroot will contribute to the celebration by offering a pop-up bar inside the Paseo Pottery studio, serving up refreshing libations that perfectly complement the lively ambiance. To satisfy everyone’s cravings, a variety of food trucks will be stationed at the event, including Il Encanto, Gracias Madre, Strawberries & More, and Plantita Bakery.

“We are thrilled to continue to activate spaces across town while giving emerging artists a free platform to share their art and build a community,” said Alex Streeper, ArtWalk Santa Fe co-founder. “We expect to see a great turnout from the local community to support our New Mexico artists and this artistic neighborhood of Santa Fe.”

“We are so excited for Paseo Pottery to be hosting the second annual Rufina Block Party in our location on Rufina Street!” said Angela Smith Kirkman, owner of Paseo Pottery. “Interesting fact… Do you know the origin of the name Rufina? When we moved to our new location, we did a little research and discovered that ‘Rufina’ was a potter who was martyred in Sevilla during the third century and thus became the patron saint of potters. What?!? We didn’t even know we had a patron saint! The fact that we just happened to move to the street that bears her name strikes me as a bit serendipitous. We’ve decided that we should throw a block party each year to celebrate. Pretty sure Saint Rufina would be proud.”

“As a certified B Corp, Meow Wolf is dedicated to providing positive social and economic benefits to our community. We are proud to partner with ArtWalk Santa Fe and our Rufina Street neighbors to celebrate the fantastic businesses and artists right in our own backyard” said Isabel Slator, Programming & Outreach Manager at Meow Wolf.
