Knifemaking

November 9 @ 3:00 pm November 30 @ 7:00 pm

Course Description: Knifemaking

Dive into the art of knifemaking in this immersive 4-week course, where you will learn both the foundational techniques and advanced skills needed to create your own custom knife. Over four sessions of hands-on instruction, you’ll work with a knife blank to craft a unique “kit knife” and gain valuable insights into bladesmithing using raw tool steel to practice forging a blade from scratch. Discover the intricacies of heat treating, quenching, and the aesthetics of wooden handles and their application, all while honing your craftsmanship and safety awareness in a supportive environment. By the end of the course, you’ll take home a finished kitchen or paring knife, plus a forged blade you’ve created yourself!

This class meets on Saturdays from 3 – 7 on Nov. 9, 16, 23, & 30

What You Will Learn:

  • Week 1: Grind and sand a blade from a pre-cut knife blank, focusing on blade shape and sharpness. This builds confidence and an understanding of the final product we’re working toward
  • Week 2: Create a custom wooden handle, including shaping, finishing, and setting rivets for attachment.
  • Week 3: Explore bladesmithing techniques with raw tool steel, including heat treating and quenching methods.
  • Week 4: Refine your knife and blade, perform final assembly, and learn the basics of maintenance and care.

Who This Class Is For:
