Bookmaking: Accordion Fold with Monoprinting

This is a great place to start if you are new to bookmaking, and great practice if you already make books. Learn Hedi Kyle’s way of folding the accordion (a very different approach to the magic of folding) and make TWO books in this workshop. One, basic accordion fold book with a decorative-paper cover and the other a sewn back-to-back accordion book. Also learn the process of monoprinting with a gelli plate to make decorative papers to use in these books.

Your resulting 2 books can be  journals or use the decorative papers inside that we create on the gelli-plate to make art books. Sure to be a satisfying time together!

What You’ll Learn:

• Basic Bookmaking Skills with FOLD and SEW
• The pamphlet stitch
• Basic Accordion fold AND Back to Back accordion construction
• Monoprinting basics on the gelli plate with acrylic to make decorative papers
• Covering bookboard with decorative paper and attaching to book body
  

Please Note:

Students 16 years of age and up can be unaccompanied; ages 12-15 must have a guardian also enrolled in the class.  Minors must have parental permission and signed waiver (ask us).
