BADGE- Machining Metal: Milling Machine
Sunday, January 26, 2025 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
This hands-on class introduces students to the fundamentals of machining using a milling machine. Learn how to safely and accurately operate a milling machine to shape metal, create precise parts, and enhance your metalworking skills. Whether you’re new to machining or looking to expand your capabilities, this class will cover essential techniques including machine setup, selecting cutting tools, basic milling operations (like face milling and edge milling), and understanding feeds and speeds.
Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, students will gain the confidence to handle common milling tasks. Emphasis is placed on safety, proper machine operation, and the importance of precision in metalworking. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to begin creating basic parts on the milling machine and be prepared for more advanced machining projects.
What You Will Learn:
- Safe operation of a milling machine
- How to set up and adjust the machine for different tasks
- Basic milling operations such as face milling and edge milling
- Understanding cutting tools and how to select the right one for a job
- How to calculate and apply proper feeds and speeds for different materials
- Techniques for creating precise parts and measurements
- Basic machinist measuring with micrometers & calipers
Please Note:
- This is an introductory class, and no prior machining experience is required.
- Closed-toe shoes, long pants, and safety glasses are required. All other personal protective equipment is provided.
- Students will work with a variety of materials, including metal stock, under the supervision of the instructor.
- Metal Lathe is a separate class we recommend that pairs well.
