BADGE – Industrial Sewing Machines

Dive into the world of industrial sewing! In this hands-on course, you’ll create a simple, durable heavy canvas and leather ditty bag while gaining an overview of Industrial Sewing. You’ll learn on various industrial sewing machines: we have a Juki, Singer walking foot, and SailRite.
Learn essential skills such as threading, adjusting thread tension, machine maintenance, and safety practices. You’ll also explore the specifics of heavy-duty and industrial needles, gaining the knowledge needed to select and change them appropriately for different projects. You’ll also learn our industrial punch and grommet machine. Whether you’re looking to enhance your sewing expertise or start a new hobby, this class will equip you with invaluable skills for any sewing endeavor.
What You Will Learn:
- Operation and maintenance of industrial sewing machines
- How to thread machines and correctly adjust thread tension
- Safety protocols for using industrial equipment
- Changing & winding bobbins
- Operation of punch & grommet machine
- Techniques for working with heavy canvas, industrial synthetics, and leather
- Understanding needle types, how & when to change them
- Creation of a functional tote bag to showcase your skills
Please Note:
- Prerequisite: MAKE Sewing Badge is REQUIRED
- Students aged 16 years and up can attend unaccompanied. Students aged 12-15 must have a guardian also enrolled in the class. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (please ask us for details).
- Closed-toe shoes are required at MAKE and long hair must be tied back in shops
