Board Member Responsibilities and Commitments

This commitment means actively contributing to Make Santa Fe’s long-term vision and sustainability. It includes engaging in thoughtful discussion, offering guidance on priorities and policies, and helping ensure decisions align with our mission and community impact.

This commitment means representing Make Santa Fe in the community by sharing our mission, inviting others to get involved, and helping build connections that strengthen our visibility and financial support. Your voice and enthusiasm help inspire others to invest in our work.

This commitment means taking responsibility for Make Santa Fe’s financial health by reviewing budgets, monitoring sustainability, and approving major financial decisions. It ensures our resources are used responsibly and in alignment with our mission.

This commitment means participating in the process of recruiting, supporting, and assessing the Executive Director’s performance. It ensures strong leadership and accountability in advancing Make Santa Fe’s mission and organizational goals.

As a Board Member of Make Santa Fe, I understand that I am also a member of the organization and, as such, I agree to the following:

• I will uphold and follow all member policies, safety protocols, and studio rules as outlined and posted throughout the facility.


• I will model respectful, safe, and responsible behavior in all studios and public areas.


• I understand that board members are not exempt from member policies, and that my actions in the space reflect directly on the integrity of the board and the organization.


• I will resolve any policy violations, conflicts, or concerns through the established channels, and I will encourage others to do the same.


• I acknowledge that Make Santa Fe may address any member-related infractions—including those committed by board members—in accordance with standard procedures.
  

This commitment means making consistent participation a priority to ensure informed decision-making and effective governance. Regular attendance helps maintain continuity, accountability, and collaboration within the board.

This commitment means coming prepared by reading agendas, reports, and financials in advance. Preparation allows for meaningful discussion, informed decisions, and productive use of meeting time.

This commitment means taking an active role in at least one Make Santa Fe program each quarter, not necessarily by attending, but by participating meaningfully in its success. This could mean helping plan an event, introducing potential sponsors or partners, volunteering on-site, supporting fundraising efforts, or assisting with outreach and communications. The goal is to stay connected to our programs, our members, and the community we serve.

This commitment means recognizing that the board’s management authority extends only to the Executive Director. Board members do not direct staff, use resources for personal projects, or receive special privileges in the space. Engagement should always support Make Santa Fe’s mission and operations as a whole.

This commitment means understanding what Make Santa Fe stands for and how we operate. Familiarity with our goals and programs ensures that board members can make informed decisions and advocate effectively for the organization.

This commitment means contributing to the development and evaluation of Make Santa Fe’s goals, strategies, and outcomes. Active participation helps guide the organization’s growth and ensures alignment with our mission and community needs.

This commitment means taking an active role in at least one committee or working group. Committees are where much of the board’s work happens, and your participation helps drive progress, innovation, and organizational success.

This commitment means supporting Make Santa Fe’s fundraising efforts through events like the Yard Sale, Power Tool Racing, and other community activities. Participation can include meaningful planning, volunteering, promoting, or helping secure donations and sponsors.

This commitment means each board member contributes to Make Santa Fe’s financial sustainability by personally donating or securing donations totaling $1,000 annually. This can include individual gifts, sponsorships, or funds raised through events and community connections.

This commitment means actively sharing Make Santa Fe’s mission, programs, and successes within your personal and professional networks. Your advocacy helps expand our reach, attract new supporters, and strengthen community connections.

This commitment means leveraging your networks to introduce Make Santa Fe to individuals, businesses, and foundations that align with our mission. Building these relationships helps sustain our programs and expand our community impact.
