To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing with deep enthusiasm for the Midtown Arts and Design Alliance (MADA) project. As one of the first projects to help revitalize the Midtown Site, MADA will provide arts and culture programming, makerspace facilities, monthly and annual events, internships and job opportunities, education for all ages, and important support to the local Indigenous community, youth, and emerging artists and cultural entrepreneurs of all ages.

City support for MADA, especially by our elected officials, will ensure that over 15 arts and culture non-profits and creative enterprises will have long-term access to affordable space and make community facilities available to the public. Long term affordability is critical for the sustainability of our social sector. Especially with federal funding cuts, it is more important than ever that we demonstrate community support for and local investment in MADA.

MADA is responsible for raising over $20 million to rehabilitate iconic City-owned buildings including the Ricardo Legorreta-designed Visual Arts Center and the last remaining WWI military hospital barracks. To date, MADA has raised over $4.5 million, even before achieving a City greenlight on their long term lease!

But the Midtown Arts and Design Alliance is a non-profit developer. This means they cannot continue to fundraise or continue to fund projects costs without a greenlight by the City.

In order to gain momentum on fundraising, our elected officials must approve the MADA Ground Lease as well as provide resounding, vocal support. Supporters and donors must see that the City is 100% behind this project in order to feel confident personally backing the project.

We ask you to not only vote “yes” on the Ground Lease and Development Agreement for MADA, but also to demonstrate your resounding vocal support for this unique private public partnership, which will provide an arts and culture anchor to the once-in-a-generation revitalization of Midtown.
